. . . and the winner is New Prague High School
New Prague, located in south central Minnesota, has always been synonomous with polka music and has been the site for various events celebrating old-time music, and now it is also known for producing a contest-winning high school choir.
Twelve members of the New Prague High School choir won a singing contest, took the stage Oct. 5 at Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis, MN, and performed with the nationally-known band, Foreigner.
Foreigner contacted the KQRS radio station in Minneapolis, MN this summer, to help them find a high school choir to perform “I Want to Know What Love is” with the band.
KQRS asked Minnesota high school choirs to send in videos of themselves performing the song, and New Prague High School was chosen as the winner of the contest. You can see their submission video here.
New Prague High School has a choir of 80 members, but could only include 12 in the video for the contest.
The choir was interviewed by all four major TV stations in Minneapolis, MN – WCCO, Fox 9 News, KARE 11, and Channel 5 Eyewitness News.
As a special treat, Kelly Hansen, the lead singer from Foreigner, also signed autographs at the dealership.
The music department at New Prague High School was awarded $1,000 by Journey and Ford Motor Company. Uttech has not decided for sure what to use the money for, but would like to use it to commemorate the event for the school and its choir.
