Polka event in Aurora Saturday
The center of the East Range’s polka attention will be in Aurora Saturday, June 10 when the Celebrate Aurora Committee hosts Johnny Snidarich and the Bohunks. The concert is from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Aurora American Legion, with $10 for admission. The Sons of the Aurora American Legion are sponsoring the food for the event and the Ladies Auxiliary will be serving. Polish, chips, and a pickle spear are available for $6.
Polka is the music that lightens the heart and puts a smile on our face,” said committee member Bobby Jo Mineheine in a release. “Johnny and his fellow musicians never fail at filling the floor with many happy couples. This orchestra is made up of many fine artists: Johnny Snidarich, Johnny Slavich, John Stark, and Matt Jarva or Jimmy Laine. We are fortunate to feature this great group live.”
Polkafest 2017 will also feature Rob Tomassoni with Lucky Buck.
“Rob brings excitement and fun to every event and assists in raising funds for numerous worthy organizations across the Range,” Mineheine added. “If you are ready for rousing entertainment between music sets, grab a dollar and let Rob walk you through the fast-paced and addicting game of Lucky Buck.”
The Celebrate Aurora Committee is a newly-formed group of individuals working to preserve the past and celebrate the future. Polkafest 2017 is a fundraiser for the committee and the Fourth of July celebration.
The committee is working to support the annual parade, fireworks, sawdust piles, kid’s games, cotton candy, and music, among other events.
“It’s our mission to revitalize our long-held traditions and breathe new vigor into the many events that take place annually,” Mineheine said. “Preparing for these events take countless individuals who have put in limitless hours of fundraising and organizing so that we could make memories with our families and friends. We are inspired to give back to our community to ensure that our children and citizens can experience the memories of Aurora Patriotic Days.”
